OpenAI launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna at about half the old price
GPT-6 Sol is OpenAI's model for everyday work, coding and using a computer. Luna is a very cheap, fast version. Both cost about half as much as the GPT-5.6 models they replace.
In short: Same job, half the price. A good moment to look again at what AI costs you.
OpenAI released two new models on 22 September. GPT-6 Sol is built for everyday professional work, coding, and using a computer for you. GPT-6 Luna is a smaller, very cheap and fast version.
For developers, Sol costs $2 per million tokens in and $10 out. Luna costs just $0.10 in and $0.50 out. Both are about half the price of the GPT-5.6 models they replace, and reports say this is the normal price, not a short-term offer.
A week later, on 29 September, OpenAI followed with GPT-6.1 Sol at the same price.
