OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Terra uses a computer faster, at half the price

GPT-6.1 Terra arrived on 26 October. It is built for using a computer, reading images, coding and everyday work, and it costs developers half as much as the models OpenAI compares it with.

In short: A cheaper model for everyday computer tasks. The speed and score claims come from OpenAI.

OpenAI gives examples like filling out forms, editing videos, reading technical drawings and handling repetitive desktop work. Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users can use it in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

For developers it costs $1 per million tokens of input and $5 of output. A token is a small piece of text. OpenAI says that is 50% less than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, and that Terra finishes tasks more than three times faster than its larger models.

OpenAI still suggests its larger models for the hardest coding jobs. All of these figures come from OpenAI, and the report does not mention independent testing.
