ChatGPT gets “dots”: AI helpers that keep working while you're away

Dots are AI helpers in ChatGPT that keep working on a goal over days. Each one has its own computer in the cloud, learns from your feedback, and can connect to thousands of apps. They are starting with paid business plans.

In short: A step from “answer my question” to “handle this for me”. Only on higher paid plans for now.

Most chatbots wait for you to type. OpenAI's new “dots”, announced on 29 September, are different: you give one a goal and it keeps working on it in the background.

Each dot gets its own computer and web browser in the cloud, so your own computer does not need to stay on. OpenAI says dots learn from your feedback and can connect to more than 4,000 apps. You can talk to the same dot in ChatGPT, Slack or Microsoft Teams.

They are rolling out first to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in some countries, plus a test for big companies.

Before you hand any AI helper a real job, check what it can see and what it is allowed to do.
